Fabrics for custom tuxedos & formalwear are different than your average custom suit fabrics. While mills like Ermengildo Zegna, Loro Piana & Vitale Barberis remain the same, yarns for formalwear fabrics usually differ. Fabric weight, sheen, texture and wrinkle resistance are all important factors.
All Alan David Custom garments are hand sewn by bespoke tailors. Only full custom tuxedos are produced, not made-to-measure. Tuxedos are all constructed with a full canvas front, no glue or fusible are ever used. Every Alan David garment is proudly Made in the USA.
-Barathea fabrics are the darkest shade of black and make for the most formal tuxedo attire. Its okay if you don’t know what Barthea is, the important thing is that we know all about it and you will look great in it.
-Wool fabrics with slight blends of silk give off a young crisp sheen and really makes the tuxedo look young and trendy. This works great for black as well as the blue tuxedos that are so popular now.
-Formal wear fabrics must be lighter in weight than regular suit fabrics. You will have a tendency to sweat more at formal occasions so the lighter the fabric the more comfortable you will feel.
-Most important the fabric must be wrinkle and crease resistant. Nothing looks worse than a wrinkled tux and with photos today, every wrinkle will have more of a tendency to show.
