After less-than-perfect experiences with other custom tailors, I found my place. Alan David has a wide variety of fine cloths and fabrics to choose from, and they will work with you on time and a bit on price. Most importantly, their sales people are excellent style advisors, and their tailors - particularly Jay - are super experts at getting the fit just right. These suits are pricey, but not as crazy as some other places, and they have not disappointed me yet. This is my go-to place after many many years of buying custom suits elsewhere. Justin has a particularly fine eye for style, and Elsie will professionally guide you through the scheduling process. Take it from a discerning, sometimes skeptical, consumer - this is the place to go.

Alan David is hands down one of the best custom tailors you can visit in NYC. I walked in for a work suit that I needed ASAP and they were able to get me a suit on rush order that looks terrific.If you have the opportunity, just swing by Alan David. I promise you won’t regret it. They have a wonderful selection of fabrics and accessories. Big thank you to Michele and Tony for their attention to details, gentle hands and excellence. 10/10 would visit again!

I would recommend Alan David. It was my first time buying custom clothing, so there was a learning curve, and the folks there were very service friendly and understanding. I've not yet received the suit and shirts I've purchased Alan David but I have to post this now to celebrate their professionalism and customer service. It was a world-class experience as the sales person educates me on the various fabrics and other options that were available and within my budget. The tailor who did my sizing was warm, friendly and efficient. He continued the great experience I had once I walked in. But above all else I have to include a particular detail and this is this man who was in the shop at the same time who was having what I can only describe a temper tantrum unfitting of any adult, let alone someone who was as seasoned as this man appeared to be. He verbally abusing another tailor in the shop over some issue or another. While I'm sure it's entirely possible he had good reason to be less than satisfied with what he had most recently purchased there are no excuses for speaking to another person the way he was. I have to hand it to both the tailor I was working with and the one that was on the direct end of this tirade that the man should simply be embarrassed for. They both continued to be consummate professionals in light of that. I can't wait to see what great work they do with the items I purchased. If you want to experience a truly professional and warm custom suit shop this is the place to go!

Fabulous experience from start to finish, amazing consultation, fitting and end result is me looking very handsome which is not easy to accomplish LOLQuality product and dealing with a company with Integrity is more important to me than price, and Alan Davids reputation and reviews online intrigued me enough to travel all the way from South Carolina to get a bespoke suit and I am glad I did! Very friendly nice people and no pushy upsell crap.We did have a small hiccup with the delivery timeframe for my suit and the owner Alan got personally involved, DID NOT HESITATE TO OWN THE PROPLEM, Apologized and immediately handled the situation like a class act and earned my respect and future business 100%.

I am overdue in providing this review. I had two suits made by Alan David 6 years ago, and I’m still very happy with them. I just visited their new location to order some new items, and the service is wonderful. I brought my original suits so we could discuss sizing and potential alterations. I’m glad to be a loyal customer of Alan David.

What an amazing experience! The staff were all so friendly and easy to work with, but I need to give a big shout-out to Michelle, who helped me create my custom suit from start to finish and helped me every step of the way. She was always willing to help me and answer any questions I had and was the nicest and most knowledgable! I am obsessed with my suit and can't wait to wear it. Went through the process of getting a custom suit for my wedding and couldn't have been happier with the results. I was nervous initially because I didn't know anything about suits but I put my full trust in David, Michelle, and others and they were right to assure me that everything would look fantastic. You can request any specific customizations or alterations that you want but they will probably recommend staying true to a classic, timeless style. In the end, I was more than pleased with how my three piece suit and custom shirt turned out and I'd gladly purchase another suit from them.

One thing that puts the battery in my back is meeting people who have niche passions, for no other reason than passions sake.Alan David is more passionate about suits than anyone I have ever met. In his 10 minute speech to us at this Yelp Elite event in his new space, he used words I never thought would be used to describe a suit."This particular suit is conversational"... my head began to spin. How can a suit be conversational? Well when you really sit and think about it...Another bar he dropped was "when you're making a custom suit, create something. Not for the sake of trying to be different, but for the sake of creating something." In this world where AI will take most of our 9-5s, I felt that on a spiritual level. Only human creativity and passion will really matter.The best way I could describe Alan is presidential. He COMMANDED that room. He should really consider a run for office at some point.I also need to shout out my boy Neil, who is on Alan's staff and took my measurements. He was telling me all these tiny details about tailoring and how a suit jacket should fit that it hurt my tiny brain. My first thought was "thank GOD I didn't wear a suit jacket in here I woulda got COOKED," because none of mine fit how they should lol.At the end of Alan's speech, he informed us all we would be getting a free Loro Piana suit jacket, which is the pinnacle of luxury menswear. I needed a suit for my cousins wedding. I was tired of buying ready made clothing and then have to do alterations that never fit right and was very costly so I decided to go custom. When I made my appointment with Alan David Custom I was explained the process and what I was going to expect at the appointment.Once I came in to the appointment I realized this was the place because they took the time to explain step by step each and every detail and the differences of the fabrics that they offered. Once I picked my suit and shirt fabrics I chose all my details to make my look unique to me. The attention to detail was like no other. I never knew there were so many options that I can choose for my suit. Next they took me over to pick out my custom tie. The options were endless and made it exactly how I want it. Then I got measured. The measurements were extensive and my fitter asked me many questions to ensure that I got the fit that I wanted. I felt very reassured that I made the right decision.Six weeks later I came in for my first fitting and loved the outcome. They did an amazing job! They exceeded my expectations! Thank you to Neil, Jay, Ben, Elsie and Emily. You are all true professionals and I would highly recommend Alan David Custom! You will not be sorry.

This was the best suit-buying experience imaginable. I stepped into the showroom which was bright and colorful and busy. There were a few salespeople sitting at tables and was allowed to spend time walking around the room looking at the finished articles before we sat down to talk. I explained that I had only recently decided to have bespoke clothing made and they patiently took me through my options in terms of fabric, style and price. In the end I decided on a mix of a suit, jacket & vest and some slacks.The actual measurement process was very thorough and at the first fitting (about 4-5 weeks later) the resulting garments needed only minor alterations, which took about a week. I will definitely be going back!

I had a fantastic experience. I absolutely recommend coming here. First I dealt with Elsie and she was a pleasure to work with. I was then paired up with Michelle and Gonzalo for my measurements and the adjustments. I would highly recommend Michelle if you are looking for a custom women's suit! It is incredibly difficult to find someone to make custom suits for women. Michelle understands the complexities of different women's body types and considers all of the differences in the way in which a suit is made differently for a woman -- pocket shape and depth, button distance, etc. -- and incorporates them into a beautiful suit. See Michelle -- you won't be disappointed!!

2nd Update: I did receive my refund. There was a mix-up with who was to send it, which was complicated by someone being gone on vacation. Now that everything is said and done, I would highly recommend Alan David for bespoke suits. Despite my issue, I love the suit and feel great in it.Update: There was one issue, and I was promised a refund for it. They told me there was an issue processing the refund on the first attempt. After no response to my last five emails trying to schedule a call to resolve the issue with the refund, I am downgrading them from five stars to four stars.My fiancé and I had been searching for a tailor to make me a suit for our wedding when we came across Alan David Custom. After receiving my suit from Alan David Custom, I was extremely pleased with the final product. This was my first experience with a bespoke suit, but it certainly won't be my last. Alan David Custom will be my first choice for all future suits. As someone who is generously proportioned, I was impressed with the tailors' ability to create a suit that fits my body type perfectly and made me feel confident and comfortable. I highly recommend Alan David Custom to anyone looking for a well-fitting and stylish suit.

My experience with Michelle at Alan David went above and beyond my expectations. I was asked to officiate a friend’s wedding and had tried on my tux about 3 weeks before the wedding. I had been weight lifting and my pants no longer fit. After trying several off-the-rack tuxedo options, which were expensive for the quality, I made an appointment at Alan David.I was looking for a double breasted peak lapel jacket with pleated pants that had a slight break and a nice drape to them. Not only was the incredible team at Alan David able to accommodate my unreasonable request of a custom suit in such a short timespan, the suit was made with extreme precision, care and love. Michelle’s expertise, incredible taste, artistry, kindness and warmth made this whole process a dream.At my first fitting, my tuxedo shirt that I had previously owned needed the sleeves adjusted which the team was able to accommodate as well as sewing my button holes on my placket smaller so my shirt studs wouldn’t fall out (a detail I had never even thought of, but what turned out to be an essential modification).This was my first time ordering a custom suit. Elsie, Emily, Ben, Bruce and especially Michelle all made my experience a true delight from start to finish. The great thing about Alan David is that they order extra fabric so if my suit needs alterations in the future the fabric will be from the same dye lot. Custom suiting is ultimately an investment, cheap suits can be expensive from how frequently you need to replace them. A custom suit can last for decades if you maintain them properly. I would highly recommend Alan David for those who are looking for a beautiful, tailor-made suit, I plan on returning again as soon as I can.

I started having my clothes made by Alan David 2-3 years ago. The quality and service are really remarkable, and now I wouldn’t consider using any other tailor.The process begins by making an appointment. In my case, Elsie helped me with that, and she quickly found a time that was very convenient for me. The appointment is more important than it may at first seem. Although the store is almost always busy, Alan David honors appointments more carefully than many doctors and it assures you full attention when you arrive.The first part of the session involves selecting the garment you want. Suits, sports jackets, blazers, pants, tuxedos, overcoats – Alan David makes them all with great care and expertise in a variety of subtly different styles. An expert with years of experience works with you. In my case David helped me and we zeroed in on blazers and pants. He quickly made some good suggestions and we moved on to fabric selection.Alan David has an extremely wide selection of wonderful fabrics. Broadly speaking, the fabrics fall into three categories. About 20% of them are in what I would call the “value” category. These are very good, but very reasonably priced. If you are looking for a perfectly tailored garment that won’t break the bank, look no further. The majority of their materials are more expensive, but by no means exorbitant. There are very fine gaberdines, worsteds, linens, and tweeds, primarily from England, Scotland, and Italy, in virtually every color and pattern imaginable. The final 20% or so are truly luxury fabrics – cashmeres, alpacas, and vicunas that are expensive but very beautiful. If you want something super high-end, Alan David has you covered, too.I went with a dark blue wool blend for the blazer and a medium gray gaberdine for the pants. Once your garments and fabrics are set, you move on to the all-important measurement process.Measurement at Alan David is part science and part art. Very experienced tailors (not salesmen) meticulously take many measurements following a proprietary pattern process. The result - totally bespoke garments that fit perfectly.When your clothes have been completed, you go for a final fitting and finetuning. Once they have all the measurements set, they follow the patterns to make whatever other garments you order in the future that generally fit perfectly with very little or no alteration required.Amazingly, Alan David guarantees a perfect fit for the life of the garment at no additional charge. Obviously, there is a limit to how much a garment can be let out or taken in, but the fact that Alan David provides this great follow-on service is yet another reason to use them.I recommend them enthusiastically.

After enduring years of endless trunk sales in an effort to find a suit that actually fit without having to "butcher" the pants, I realized I needed a real solution to my poorly fitting suits dilemma. I needed to find a provider of truly custom fitted bespoke suits!! Following significant research, I went to Alan David and met with David. He is a true gentleman with an eye for detail that sets apart the clothing made here vs the other providers I looked into. His teammate Elsie are their entire team are wonderful as well. They are all professionals and will make you feel quite at home during your visit. I came in looking for a suit and subsequently purchased four suits along with numerous shirts and slacks. I am quite pleased with all of it. There are lots of choices so give yourself enough time to review the numerous samples they have on site. The turnaround time is reasonable and can be reduced if need be.

Being from out of state, we had a phenomenal experience with the staff there, and were blown away by the attention to detail and quality. Alan David Custom is the choice of Bespoke Tailors for me. Because of my athletic lifestyle, it was hard for me to be satisfied with many other tailors and many thousands spent. I took a leap of faith and went to Alan David for my tuxedo for my wedding in 2019. Wow - the result was fantastic. My husband just started getting his first Alan David custom pieces a couple years ago and once you go Alan David you’ll never want to shop for a suit or shirt anywhere else.The service was impeccable and the fitters would not compromise until the suit fit like a glove (probably better). Last but not least, the owner is incredibly warm and makes sure that the high quality service matches the high quality product.

My husband's custom-made suit was a showstopper at our wedding; who is not average size. We looked across NYC to find a suit store that was good quality and made us felt comfortable spending money on a suit, even if it was for our wedding. Alan David was not only professional, but welcoming and accommodating. We were able to bring our dog for one of the fittings and everyone loved her! If you want a perfect suit that last for lifetime, you need to come here to get it. They custom made every single piece by hand and alteration for free for life. Especially for your special lifetime event, it’s worth spending extra penny to have the custom suit that fits perfectly to your body and look good on the camera.The appointment was quite easy to make. And the first appointment might take a minute, you need to pick fabric, pick lining and styles. So I recommend to think about it and if you have any pictures of the style you want just save in the phone to show them so they can recommend something for you to save time. And they also take a lot of measurements even the way your body arches.Then you wait for about 4 weeks to come for fitting. It came out almost perfect just minor personal preference adjustments, then you wait another wait to pick up the final productI had a custom blazer made it’s perfect fit and very comfortable not to mention the fabric is so nice and high end.All the staffs are so friendly and the owner even came to talk to me and check the jacket to make sure he signs off too and meet his standard. Everyone is very professional.

I’m a college professor and a professional speaker. I’ve done 3 suits from Alan David so far. My suits came out as good as the suits done by world famous tailors like Edward Sexton, Cifonelli, Panico, etc. for a FAR less price. Check out my photos under photos. Alan David has the world class fabrics from English and Italian companies. Their fittings are so meticulous to get it perfect. Fittings with Neil and Jay were excellent. Most of all the owner Alan David is the perfect American embodiment of doing whatever it takes to satisfy the customer. Never seen service like his anywhere else. GO FOR IT!Update: After getting 5 heavy suits (over 10 oz) from Alan David I went for 2 lighter summer suits (7.5 oz) and they both came out as excellent as their other ones. Alan David is the best in what they do and give great value to the customers. Attached are the two mohair suits in teal and grey colors.
