Posted on Jon M. For those of us who tend not to fit into off-the-rack menswear well, Alan David is one of the very few options left in New York City. I have bought bespoke clothing in London and Hong Kong, and I would rate the quality of what Alan David makes as similar, if not slightly higher. Anyone who has bought bespoke menswear knows that there are dozens of measurements and specifications for any garment. A mistake here or there is almost inevitable in this business. In contrast to other operations, Alan David goes to extraordinary lengths to make it right when a mistake happens. I was blown away by the quality of the packaging when they recently rush-shipped a dress shirt (not even a suit or a tuxedo) to me.Posted on May L. Came for a private event to celebrate Alan David Custom being named the exclusive provider of Oxxford garments for NYC. Okay, what does this mean? Oxxford is a luxury menswear brand that makes high quality custom suits and is one of the few remaining manufacturers in the U.S. that offers handmade and fine-tailored quality pieces. You can't think "bespoke" without correlating it to Oxxford. Period. So when my husband was invited to attend I happily tagged along! (Party was catered, heehee!) but in all seriousness, the new showroom on Madison ave with floor-to-ceiling windows really sets the vibe to assure you that you WILL be taken care of and you're gonna look DAMN good by the end. Alan Horowitz said a few sweet words of gratitude, a true cutie patootie, and his family were all smiles seated together & watching from across the crowd. Jay, tall funny French guy, was pure energy and charm and when him and my husband get together I have to peel him away or else it's jokes and laughs all night. I do have to thank him for expertly catering to my husband's pickiness and helping him acquire multiple gorgeous custom suits. It's nice to have someone else see my husband's vision because to be honest...sometimes I don't! But the man knows what he likes and I've gotta hand it to him...he's got great taste. ;-)Posted on David H. I had a nice suit. For many, many years. But after wearing it to a funeral, I noticed the jacket had a few holes. Moths perhaps. Yikes !!! So after doing some research, I came across "Alan David Custom" (hoping they could fix it). I spoke with a very stylish Frenchman who works there named Jay. He carefully examined the garment and said that to fix it, would cost almost the same as a new, made to measure tailored suit. Jay said whenever you are ready, come back, ask for me and let's see what we can do. No pressure. After a few months, I returned and was ready to start the process of having my first custom made suit. The whole experience was thorough and quite enjoyable. Never tedious, boring or at all a hassle. Hundreds of fabrics to choose from in all sorts of weights, patterns and materials. You pick your lining, cut/style, how you want it to fit, and when do you need it. Every detail you can think of. The best part was having an experienced tailor at my side. Giving valid advice and opinion, that was in my best interest. Because...Jay wanted me to look my best. After about 4 weeks, I came back to try on the suit. To me, it fit like a glove. But to Jay, it needed a few adjustments. A couple of weeks later, VOILA !!! My suit, with my name inside on the label, was ready. Along with a shirt that Jay had made for me. The suit is impeccable. Compliments galore. Now you may think..."a custom suit ?!?! Why ? Must have cost a fortune !" But not the case. They have fabrics for all budgets. Plus, something like this will last a lifetime. After going through this wonderful experience, I will never buy off the back again. Nor will I ever have to.Posted on Patrick M. When my father was young, his mother suggested he get a new suit and find a job. "Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes!." he argued quoting Henry David Thoreau. As legend has it she thundered back: "Oh grow up!" As usual my grandmother was right. And so it was with this story in mind that I found myself looking for something special to wear to my own daughter's baby shower. Yelp steered me towards Alan David, and before I knew it swatches of Loro Piana fabric not yet released to the public were being pulled from back rooms and these artisans went to work. The style and fit of what followed was nothing short of perfect. While I would probably follow in my father's footsteps and argue that the clothes alone do not make the man, they are a bloody good place to start.Posted on William T. Excellent service, meticulous craftsmanship in a world that needs it, and a special commendation to Elsie for her amazing care in making customer arrangements both timely and pleasant. A joy to work with.Posted on Greg F. I Rarely leave reviews but need to express my overall experience with Alan David ! First off the consultation was amazing and I enjoyed the absolutely best fitting I've ever had in 53 years !. zero pressure sales crap and a amazing location in Manhattan. We traveled all the way from South Carolina for the Alan David experience and in the end I couldn't be happier ! We actually did have a problem with my suit getting shipped on time, but Alan himself got involved, did not make excuses and did everything humanly possible to correct his staff's mistake and then some which is rare these days.Posted on Joe D. Fantastic experience every time I go here. Custom made clothing with superior service. The prices are slightly premium but not outrageous. The staffers are always friendly and efficient. They also routinely get done earlier then expectedPosted on Johnny N. One thing that puts the battery in my back is meeting people who have niche passions, for no other reason than passions sake. Alan David is more passionate about suits than anyone I have ever met. He used words I never thought would be used to describe a suit. "This particular suit is conversational"... my head began to spin. How can a suit be conversational? Well when you really sit and think about it... Another bar he dropped was "when you're making a custom suit, create something. Not for the sake of trying to be different, but for the sake of creating something." In this world where AI will take most of our 9-5s, I felt that on a spiritual level. Only human creativity and passion will really matter. I came in on the first appointment, picked my fabric and type of cut the suit would be, and got my measurements with the help of Neil and Jay. This was my first experience of a custom made suit, and I felt like a little kid on Christmas getting to pick out my suit. It's such a luxury. Even though it's a pretty penny, I feel like everyone should have this experience once in their life. A few weeks later, I came to pick up my subtly plaid Loro Piana suit jacket with my name stitched on the inside. I felt like Indian Jones holding the Holy Grail Chalice. It's beautiful. Catch me in this at EVERY semi-formal/formal event I go to for the rest of my days on this earth, and after, my son will carry on its legacy. I walked in for a Loro Piana custom suit jacket, but walked out inspired with a fully charged battery and a huge fan of Alan David and his entire team. THANK YOU AD! From the beginning of the process to the end, you feel as if you are royalty. They spend a good amount of time tailoring your jacket/suit to make it look like a piece of art. I have not experienced this level of care when it comes to clothing in my entire life time. Neil was a fantastic representative and walked me through the entire process. The shirts and sports coat I received will make a resounding impact wherever I wear them. Thank you to the team!
